After Purchasing our first home in 2019, Gunner and I were on a tight budget. Not only that, but I was a young woman who didn't know what my taste was yet.
I was doing what I thought I should do, purchasing trendy items that others had deemed as 'cool'. It took an abundance of trial and error for me to realize that I wasn't fulfilling myself when cultivating my home. Only after I had found our house filled with greys, tans, and topes with no personality did I decide to start turning it into a home that reflected my own tastes.
This process started with many trips to stores such as Ross Dress For Less, TJ Maxx, and Target. Working on a budget, I began to add personality and color. I knew my favorite colors, I knew I wanted my house to feel warm and cozy, and so, I went with that.
The space we utilize most often is our living room, so I began there. I slowly accumulated pieces, and as we were transforming our space, I picked up a love for houseplants, so we began to accommodate for those. The space slowly felt more homey and full of life, the days of dreary and dull colors were gone.
What I found through this process is that the best way to go about revamping your home is room by room, but being careful that each room is cohesive to the overall design style you're switching to. My favorite way to assure this happens is thrifting, creating an eclectic feeling and following certain colors/themes becomes so unique when done through thrifting.
